The pictures below were taken by Glossy Finish photographers following the Championship games and awards ceremonies.  Each of the teams are now preparing for Regional Tournament play in either Varina, Virginia, or Andalusia, Alabama.

By now, you may have noticed that there isn't much around Davis Park.  The nearest gas station (Gate) is located five miles west of the park, while the nearest grocery store (Publix) is located about two miles east, in Ponte Vedra Beach.  Grocery stores, pharmacies, restaurants, gas stations, medical care and other services are all available in Ponte Vedra Beach.

Ponte Vedra and Ponte Vedra Beach
The 2009 Florida State Championships will be held at Davis Park, which is located off the eastern end of the Nocatee Parkway in Ponte Vedra (32081), just west of the Intracoastal Waterway (ICW).  Some 16U games may be played at Ponte Vedra High School, which is adjacent to Davis Park.  All other games will be played at the Softball and Baseball complexes at Davis Park.

East of the ICW is the coastal community of Ponte Vedra Beach (32082).  The Sawgrass Marriott Resort, which is the host hotel, is located in Ponte Vedra Beach, about six (6) miles north of Davis Park.  The Marriott is adjacent to the world famous Tournament Players Club of Sawgrass, sight of THE PLAYERS Championship.  Resort guests have access to the TPC Stadium and Valley courses along with the Cabana Beach Club.

8U Rules and Louisville Slugger Pitching Machine
The 2009 Florida State Championships is the second stage of the Babe Ruth Softball Tournament Trail.  All rules for such tournaments can be found in the 2009 Babe Ruth Softball Rules and Regulations.  However, there are a few rules for the 8U division that are clarified by the Southeast Regional Commissioner.

  • Southeast Regional Rookie (8U) Rules - Click here to get the Commissioner's two-page rules document.  This same document will be part of the handouts delivered during the Manager's Meeting.  This document was updated and reviewed by Henry P. Sermons, the SE Regional Commissioner, on Tuesday, June 16th.  If you are an 8U coach, please take the time to review.

  • Louisville Slugger Ultimate Pitching Machine (UPM 40) - The Regional Commissioner mandated the use of this machine during the 2009 Regional Championships.  The State Commissioner embraced this change as did all associations in District #1.  It took a couple weeks for the girls to get used to it.  It requires no power, produces a pitch with a natural spin, and is much safer for the pitcher.  This machine will be used during 2009 Florida State Championships.  Click here to see Google searches on the machine.

  • There is no overthrow rule in 8U tournament play - In District #1, there was a published overthrow rule for 8U Rec-Ball.  That rule does not apply to tournament play.  The ball remains live on any overthrow.  This was clarified by the Bill Selman, the Florida State UIC.

ACTION PHOTOS

  1. Call Glossy Finish at 800.630.1022 or email them at info@glossyfinish.com to arrange for a reservation prior to the tournament. There is a $20 deposit necessary, but it is then a CREDIT towards any purchase you make.
  2. They will arrange for a professional photographer to come to one of your player’s games and capture between 50–100 amazing action photos.
  3. After your game you come inside the Glossy Finish Mobile Photo Lab located at the tournament to view, purchase and take home your photos that day!
  4. You use your $20 credit towards any purchase.

TEAM PHOTOS

  1. If you would like to arrange to have an official and commemorative team photo taken at the tournament, please be sure to arrange by calling Glossy Finish at 800.630.1022 or email them at info@glossyfinish.com.
  2. Team photos will be taken prior to the Opening Ceremonies in the staging area.
  3. The cost for a team photo is $10/player and there is a 10 player minimum.
  4. Each photo will be custom printed as an 8x10 with your team name and tournament logo. This is easy to frame, makes for a great memory and keepsake for years to come!
